A local, industry leading engineering & construction company has an opening for a Staff Accountant to join their team in Tewksbury, MA.
The Staff Accountant will report to the CAO & have the primary responsibility of managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial transactions.
Up to $90,000 DOE.
The role requires someone to be local to be the Boston area and will be in the office a few days each week.
Job Description:
o Receive and review invoices from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy in details such as project codes, quantities, rates, and taxes.
o Match invoices with corresponding purchase orders and receipts to verify goods or services received.
o Assign appropriate account codes to invoices and enter details into the accounting system.
o Communicate with vendors regarding invoice-related inquiries and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers.
o Process and reimburse employee expenses in accordance with company policies, verifying receipts and compliance with expense guidelines.
o Manage accruals and prepayments for expenses, ensuring accurate recording in the accounting system.
o Assist in the month-end close process by reconciling AP accounts and providing necessary documentation for financial reporting.
o Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits, collaborating with auditors to address inquiries related to accounts payable.
o Analyze AP data to identify trends and opportunities for cost control, providing insights to management on potential cost-saving measures.
o Generate and send invoices to clients for completed projects or services, ensuring accuracy in invoicing details.
o Address and resolve any billing discrepancies or disputes with clients, communicating with project managers or relevant departments as needed.
o Monitor and track incoming payments from clients, reconciling payments with invoices and updating financial records accordingly.
o Follow up with clients on overdue payments through emails or phone calls, issuing payment reminders and statements as necessary.
o Record and reconcile all incoming cash and check payments, ensuring accurate posting of payments in the accounting system.
o Maintain positive relationships with clients through clear and professional communication, providing relevant information regarding their account status.
Job Requirements:
o 3-5
years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
o Proficiency in accounting software (e.
g.
, Sage, QuickBooks, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
o Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
o Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environmento Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
o Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and analysis.
o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience.
o Experience with month-end close processes and financial statement preparation is a plus.
