Position Description:
The Demand Planning Manager is responsible / accountable for the overall CLS demand management process including the creation of domestic and international unit sales demand forecasts across all worldwide regions. Supports and works closely with Sales/Marketing, Product Development, Finance, Supply Planning, etc. at all locations to deliver effective consensus-based forecasts. Accountable for global forecast accuracy and scheduled reviews based on ABC classification, in support of inventory target levels, service levels, and manufacturing efficiencies. Ensures alignment of forecast with global and regional business strategies, including financial projections. Develops and deploys appropriate demand management strategies to drive continuous improvement in the function. Responsible for the Demand component of the Sales and Operations Planning Process. Management responsibilities of the position include facilitating the operating performance of assigned Demand Planning Associates, as well as developing necessary skill competencies.
General
Responsibilities:
Leads the Global Demand Consensus Meetings and ensures an effective monthly Demand Consensus Review process in place across all sites. Drives functional process excellence across CLS.
Works with all worldwide business regions to aggregate statistical forecasts.
Represents the summary outputs of the Demand Consensus process at the monthly Sales & Operations Planning Demand Review.
Reviews total worldwide demand by business team / geographic region. Supports and works closely with key stakeholders (Sales/Marketing/Development, Finance, Logistics / Supply Planning, etc.) to ensure alignment with business strategies.
Directly supervises assigned Demand Planners on a day-to-day basis to drive forecast accuracy. Communicates direction, priorities and issues/risks to key stakeholders. Provides dotted line supervision to in regional demand planners (e.g. EMEA, China, Japan).
Establishes performance expectations and training/development plans for Demand Planning associates (including in region demand planners), providing periodic feedback and supervisory direction. Appraises performance and provides input to annual compensation and development planning reviews.
Establishes strategies, key performance metrics, target objectives/guidelines and improvement initiatives to meet demand management objectives.
Works with Sales/Marketing/Development to develop and modify demand planning strategy as products transition throughout life cycle phases.
Responsible for developing necessary skill competencies across global organization.
Identifies areas of opportunity within the worldwide supply chain for continuous improvement.
Prioritizes own time to maximize business contribution.
Participate in the annual budgeting process, including but not limited to the Green Book and Black Book plans.
Work with the commercial team to maintain accurate product forecasts, capture new requirements, communicate demand spikes, large orders and tenders and allocate product when required.
Support the CLS Sales & Operations Planning Process (S&OP) through direct participation and functional leadership in New Activities, Demand, and Supply Steps.
Maintain documentation of demand planning processes, procedures and policies. Conduct regular reviews of these and assess opportunities for improvements. Establish measurements to monitor proper execution of these processes, procedures and policies.
Maintain subject matter expertise in CLS supply chain demand planning and management processes and systems.
Maintain current knowledge of industry and intercompany best practices, supply chain trends, and technologies.
Work closely with new Product Development Teams to support successful new product launch planning and execution
Utilize ERP and Reporting systems (PeopleSoft, Access) to create alert management tools and address gaps for resolution.
Education and
Experience:
BA/BS is required, preferably in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or similar discipline. MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
5-20 years of Forecasting and Demand Planning experience required
APICS (CPIM/ CSCP or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Demonstrated supply chain process improvements that have provided significant benefit for the organization.
Demonstrated ability to define and implement planning processes.
Experience leading demand or supply step in S&OP process.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to work without direct supervision and set own work direction within the context of the position.
Ability to demonstrate influence within the function and organization.
Ability to adapt quickly and demonstrate flexibility across many functional responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of Supply Chain concepts and procedures (forecasting, supply, demand, and inventory planning).
Analytical, with demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Proven ability to effectively interact with multi-functional areas (Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Operations).
Encourages different views and constructive disagreement to surface new ideas and resolve conflicts
Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
Detail-oriented individual with a strong ability to multi-task
Ability to set and communicate priorities and work in a dynamic business environment
Familiarity and working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, PeopleSoft Preferred) and MS Office applications required.
Understanding of project management concepts and hands on experience as both a team member and leader.
Advanced Excel, Access and Power Point skills.
