Sr. Systems Development Engineer

A unique opportunity exists for an experienced Systems Engineer to support SMART's current and next-generation Embedded Flash Memory products. Utilize your background of hardware, software, and systems skills to design and conduct experimentation to continually enhance SMART's understanding of flash memory devices and controllers as applied to embedded systems. Drive solutions to issues observed at the design, test, and customer levels. Contribute to SMART's understanding of purchased components and industry standard storage busses such as SATA/ATA, PCIe/PCI, CF, USB, and emerging next-generation interfaces. To be successful, the individual must be a self-starter capable of independently identifying and researching issues significant to the design, development, and support of SMART's Embedded Flash Memory products. The individual must possess an understanding of hardware, software, and systems and be able to utilize this background to design and conduct experimentation to drive solutions to observed issues and enhance SMART's knowledge base. The candidate must possess superior written and verbal communications skills. This position will be located in our office in Tewksbury, MA or Newark, CA. Responsibilities Communicate directly with key customers to drive understanding of failure or qualification issues Design and conduct experimentation to enhance SMART's understanding of flash memory devices and controllers. Assume responsibility to identify root-cause of technical problems at the design, test, and customer levels. Work with SMART personnel and suppliers to develop and drive solutions. Utilize debugging aids, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and bus analyzers, to diagnose low-level interactions between SMART's Embedded Flash products and host software. Expand upon SMART's knowledge of industry standard storage protocols, particularly SATA/ATA, PCIe/PCI, CF, and USB. Contribute to SMART's internal documentation library. Provide additional support for design, test, and customer support teams as required. Education and Experience 5+ years of exposure to software, hardware, and systems design. Proficient with one or more software development technologies and one or more hardware development technologies. Superior communication skills in both spoken and written forms. Established record of publication (external and/or internal). Experience effectively interfacing with remote teams. Experience with systems using integrated hardware and software. Knowledge of flash memory controller and NAND flash memory products is a distinct advantage. Highly proficient with bus/logic analyzers and oscilloscopes. Experience with multiple communications protocols. Experience with storage protocols (PCIe, NVMe, AHCI, SATA/ATA, and USB) is required. Must be self-starter, able to independently research and quickly understand new technologies. Must be familiar with design of experiments and statistical analysis of data. Must possess a highly disciplined approach to problem solving. Able to work independently or in small groups on concurrent projects in a dynamic and result-driven environment. Proficiency with both Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems. Experience with RTOS desired. BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science required. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
